Supplementary Budget Estimates topics
Dear Department of Parliamentary Services,
If possible, please treat this as an administrative or informal request.
Otherwise, please consider this a request under the FOI Act.
Can you please provide the topics list for briefs created in preparation for hearings of Senate 2016-2017 Supplementary Budget Estimates.
I ask that all fees in relation to this request be waived because the release of the documents is in the public interest. The documents help identify the most important policy areas within the department's responsibilities.
Yours faithfully,
Jackson Gothe-Snape

Dear Jackson
I refer to your request for information, seeking access to the topics list for briefs created in preparation for hearings of Senate 2016 – 2017 Supplementary Budget Estimates, sent to the DPS Information Request inbox on 15 November 2016.
The information you have requested about the release of briefs for the 2016 – 2017 Senate Supplementary Budget Estimates falls within a number of the exemptions outlined under the DPS Policy on Information Requests.
The Policy recognises that public access to documents is subject to certain limitations to ensure that sensitive information, including personal, classified or restricted information is properly protected and that parliamentary privilege is upheld. The documents you have requested are internal deliberative documents, relating to the work of the Senate, which fall within the exempt category of confidential ‘advice provided to the Presiding Officers by DPS staff and office holders’.
The DPS Information Requests Policy provides that such documents are ‘exempt’ from release. Accordingly, the information requested is withheld and will not be provided by DPS.
