Thank you for your below email to the Department of Social Services (the
Department) Freedom of Information (FOI) team on 8 July 2024. Your request
is seeking:
‘..all briefing materials (including the issues brief index) prepared for
Senate Estimates by the Department for 2024-25 Budget Estimates.’
As the request has not provided limits on the Departmental staff who have
received the briefing materials referred above, it likely will capture
hundreds of documents, being all briefing materials developed for all SES
and support staff for 2024-2025 Budget Estimates. As you can understand,
the resources required to identify, collate and review this volume of
documents would be significant, essentially making it too large a task for
us to process within the statutory timeframe.
To help streamline this request and provide the documents you are seeking
to access, we were hoping to refine the scope. To that end, would you be
open to revising the request to:
‘The index page of briefs prepared for the Secretary of the Department of
Social Services for 2024-25 Budget Estimates.’
By providing the list of briefs prepared for the Secretary for 2024/25
Budget Estimates, we are hoping it would assist you in identifying which
of those briefs you are interested in and you can make a new FOI request
for the individual briefs.
Can you please advise by 4pm Friday 12 July 2024 if you are agreeable to
revise the scope as above.

Thank you for providing that clarification.
The Department recently released the attached documents in response to an
FOI request. The documents released are the 2024/25 Budget Estimates index
page of the briefs prepared for the Secretary, Minister Rishworth and
Senator Ayres (in his capacity as Minister Rishworth's representative at
estimates hearings).
To the best of our knowledge, the Department does not provide additional
briefs to the Secretary that are not already listed on the index page.
If the attached the documents provide the information you are seeking, are
you agreeable to withdrawing your request or do you want to proceed to a
formal decision?
