Private use of social media advice provided to employees

James Smith made this Right to Information request to Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet as part of a batch sent to 204 authorities

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Dear Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet,

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

I request documents related to the ten most recent instances where an employee has sought information, advice, guidance, or opinion on their social media use in a private capacity.

I limit the scope of documents to:
- the original request from the employee
- the agency/department's response
- any follow-up questions and response
- only those sent to a relevant HR / conduct / social media (or similar) team (rather than managers across all areas of the organisation)
- where the original request was created in the last 2 years

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

James Smith

Dear Mr Smith,

Many thanks for your email.  For future reference, as of 1 July 2010, the
Right to Information Act 2009 (the RTI Act) replaced the Freedom of
Information Act 1991 (the FOI Act) [repealed] in Tasmania.

To assist in making a RTI application I have attached the RTI application
form (provided in both Word and PDF format).  If you are not using the
form, please note that your applications must be made in writing and
include the information that is requested in the form - this is a
requirement of regulation 4 of the Right to Information Regulations 2010.

As you have not included all the information that is requested in the form
in your email I am unable to formally accept your request.

However, in relation to your request for information I have made
preliminary enquires with the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s (DPAC)
Human Resources (HR) Unit.  This unit is the custodian of the “DPAC Social
Media - Personal Use Policy” which was established in 2016.

I can advise that DPAC has no record of either questions or requests for
information by employees in relation to the “DPAC Social Media - Personal
Use Policy”.  Any questions around HR policies would normally simply be
dealt with informally by the HR consultants.

Kind regards, Allison
