Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the release of the R series
passports.

Progress to deliver the R series by 2020–21 was directly affected by
COVID-19. The pandemic’s impact on international travel, passport issuing
rates, and manufacturers’ longer lead times for key components meant we
deferred the release date to 2021–22.
