Dear James,
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
Entry to all undergraduate programs at The University of Queensland (UQ) are based on two
broad requirements:
* Eligibility (subject prerequisites and other requirements)
* Merit (entry rank or OP)
Offers of university place are made to eligible applicants in order of merit.
The subject prerequisites for the [3]Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) for admission
in 2017 are a sound achievement in QLD Year 12 Senior English and Chemistry. Applicants
are also required to undertake the Undergraduate Medical Assessment Test (UMAT). The
UMAT is used as the secondary differentiator to select applicants. The lowest scaled
UMAT score to gain entry for 2016 was 173 with 65 in section one. The entry rank for
2016 admission (based on the major offer round released on 14 January 2016) to a
Commonwealth supported place in the Bachelor of Dental Science was 99.
Please note that the UMAT is not pre-determined and may fluctuate from year to year as
cut-offs are dependent upon the number and standard of applications.
UQ does not use interviews to sub-select applicants.
Prerequisites are minimum entry requirements for admission to a program. Subject
prerequisites are specific subjects applicants need to have studied and passed at Year
12/matriculation level or equivalent. They are intended to ensure that all persons
entering a program has studied and achieved an appropriate level of knowledge in subjects
deemed necessary to undertake the program successfully.
The prerequisite subjects required for each undergraduate degree program at UQ vary
depending on the area of study within the degree. All bachelor programs at UQ have an
English prerequisite, with some requiring additional prerequisite subjects in mathematics
and science.
You can locate a list standard Queensland, interstate, New Zealand (NCEA Level 3), GCE
and the International Baccalaureate year 12subject equivalents on page 14 & 15 of [4]UQ
Entry Options.
Entry ranks range from 1-99; with 99 being the highest entry rank attainable. Entry ranks
are derived from prior academic qualifications. The use of entry ranks allows applicants
with different qualifications to be assessed and compared against each other for entry to
a particular program. You can locate information on how an entry rank is derived from
various study from [5]UQ Entry Options.
Entry ranks will be based in the level of the qualification, duration of study and the
GPA. Some qualification such as bridging courses, trade qualification, the special
tertiary admission test and employment experience will be capped. UQ Admission rule will
determine how entry ranks may be used. For example once an applicant has completed one
full-time year or more of bachelor level or higher studies, the GPA from this study will
be used above all other qualification to derive an entry rank to gain entry into an
undergraduate program. Program such as the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Dental Science
and the provisional year 12 entry into the Doctor of Medicine will have addition entry
criteria. Applicants for the Bachelor of Music will be required to sit an audition. High
demand programs such as the Bachelor of Dental Science and the provision year 12 entry
into the Doctor of Medicine, UMAT is used as a secondary differentiator to select
applicants.
You can locate statistic on Admission to UQ from the [6]Planning and Business
Intelligence website. For form details information please contact the Planning and
Business Intelligence unit. You can also locate general statistics information on offer
from the [7]Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC).

Response By Email (Tamalee Robbins) (29/11/2016 03:25 PM)
Dear James,
The University of Queensland does not conduct interviews for entry to the Bachelor of Dental
Science (Honours).
The statistics you have requested are listed below:
2014 Admissions:
Applications: 1125
Offers: 109
Number of enrolments: 61
2015 Admissions:
Applications: 1000
Offers: 70
Number of enrolments: 30
The places in this program are restricted by the physical facilities required to deliver
dental training. Whilst this program is very competitive, the number of offers required is
high due to interstate applicants applying through more than one Tertiary Admissions Centre.
We use previous acceptance rates to calculate the offers required, but applicant behaviour
changes from year to year, so we adjust to maintain our numbers across multiple offering
years.
Yours sincerely,
Tamalee Robbins

Dear James,
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
Entry to all undergraduate programs at The University of Queensland (UQ) are based on two
broad requirements:
* Eligibility (subject prerequisites and other requirements)
* Merit (entry rank or OP)
Offers of university place are made to eligible applicants in order of merit.
The subject prerequisites for the [10]Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) for admission in
2017 are a sound achievement in QLD Year 12 Senior English and Chemistry. Applicants are
also required to undertake the Undergraduate Medical Assessment Test (UMAT). The UMAT is
used as the secondary differentiator to select applicants. The lowest scaled UMAT score to
gain entry for 2016 was 173 with 65 in section one. The entry rank for 2016 admission
(based on the major offer round released on 14 January 2016) to a Commonwealth supported
place in the Bachelor of Dental Science was 99.
They are intended to ensure that all persons entering
a program has studied and achieved an appropriate level of knowledge in subjects deemed
necessary to undertake the program successfully.
The prerequisite subjects required for each undergraduate degree program at UQ vary
depending on the area of study within the degree. All bachelor programs at UQ have an
English prerequisite, with some requiring additional prerequisite subjects in mathematics
and science.
You can locate a list standard Queensland, interstate, New Zealand (NCEA Level 3), GCE and
the International Baccalaureate year 12subject equivalents on page 14 & 15 of [11]UQ Entry
Options.
Entry ranks range from 1-99; with 99 being the highest entry rank attainable. Entry ranks
are derived from prior academic qualifications. The use of entry ranks allows applicants
with different qualifications to be assessed and compared against each other for entry to a
particular program. You can locate information on how an entry rank is derived from various
study from [12]UQ Entry Options.
Entry ranks will be based in the level of the qualification, duration of study and the GPA.
Some qualification such as bridging courses, trade qualification, the special tertiary
admission test and employment experience will be capped. UQ Admission rule will determine
how entry ranks may be used. For example once an applicant has completed one full-time year
or more of bachelor level or higher studies, the GPA from this study will be used above all
other qualification to derive an entry rank to gain entry into an undergraduate program.
Program such as the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Dental Science and the provisional year
12 entry into the Doctor of Medicine will have addition entry criteria. Applicants for the
Bachelor of Music will be required to sit an audition. High demand programs such as the
Bachelor of Dental Science and the provision year 12 entry into the Doctor of Medicine, UMAT
is used as a secondary differentiator to select applicants.
You can locate statistic on Admission to UQ from the [13]Planning and Business Intelligence
website. For form details information please contact the Planning and Business Intelligence
unit. You can also locate general statistics information on offer from the [14]Queensland
Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC).
