Balance requirement of the ABC charter
Dear Australian Broadcasting Corporation,
As it is a requirement that the publicly funded ABC provides balanced reporting, when will we see an equal number of presenters from the politically Right of Centre, hosting shows such as QandA, Lateline, and the Breakfast Show?
Would it be possible to provide me with a copy of the charter which deals with "balance" in your reporting?
Yours faithfully,
Valerie Spencer
Dear Australian Broadcasting Corporation,
I am still waiting for a response to my request for more balanced views on ABC, with an equal number of "right of centre" presenters.
Yours faithfully,
Valerie Spencer
Dear Ms Spencer
Thank you for your email.
Please accept my apologies that you haven’t had a response to your FOI
request as yet. I was under the impression that I didn’t have an email
address from you to respond to, but I can see that you have a
righttoknow.org.au address listed below your sign off.
As your initial FOI request regarding balanced views and a copy of the
Charter was a request for information, rather than for documents, I have
now forwarded that correspondence on to ABC Audience and Consumer Affairs,
who are the appropriate department to respond to your enquiry.
They will be in touch soon.
Kind regards

Dear Mrs Spencer
Thank you of your email. I once again apologise for the delay in
responding to you
The ABC takes audience complaints seriously and please be assured that
your concerns have been noted by the ABC and conveyed to ABC News.
While noting your concerns about balance in programs such as Q and A,
Lateline and ABC News Breakfast, Audience and Consumer Affairs is only
able to consider complaints made regarding specific broadcasts. If you
believe that there may have been a breach of ABC standards, and you would
like our unit to consider these concerns, then we do require specific
examples to be able to do so, along with: the program name,
date/approximate time and channel of the broadcast, noting the particular
standards and outlining how you believe they may have been breached; and
we will be happy to consider the issues you raise.
Judgments about whether impartiality was achieved in any given
circumstance can vary among individuals and the hallmarks which guide the
ABC's assessment of impartiality are provided in section 4 the ABC Code of
Practice provided here:

Dear Matthew Galvin,
I would just like an equal number of presenters from the right of politics, as there are on the Left of politics.
I would be doing nothing else if I were to record the number of programs which I find biased to the left.
Just employ an equal number of presenters from the Right.
Yours sincerely,
Valerie Spencer
