Volume of email to Ministers

Jason Wilson made this Freedom of Information request to Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet,

I would like information as the total volume of email received by
ministerial offices between 1999-2000 and 2011-2012.

I would like email figures on an annual basis.

I would like separate figures on internal email traffic and external or Internet traffic.

If it is possible to differentiate further - for example to give separate figures for different ministerial offices, I would also like those figures.

I note that the purpose of this information is academic research on political communication in Australia.

I thank you for your consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Jason Wilson

Dear FOI Adviser,

Thank you so much for your reply and the information it contains.

In response to your letter, I am opting to narrow and further specify my request. It is now entirely focused on the record of electronic public correspondence to the Prime Minister's office. I have broken it down into two parts.

1. I would now like to receive records or reports on the number of emails received from members of the public at the Prime Minister's address for all years between 2007 and 2012.
- November 2007 to June 2010 - emails received at Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's address.
- November 2010 to December 2012 - emails received at Prime Minister Julia Gillard's address.

2. I would like to receive records or reports on the number of replies to public electronic correspondence sent from the Prime Minister's office between 2007 and 2012.

Yours sincerely,

Jason Wilson

As such we seek your agreement to an extension of 14 days of the
