Various retention times
Dear University of Queensland,
I would like to know the retention period of financial information of students. This includes the credit card, debit card numbers as well as the amount paid using that particular credit card or debit card. this information is generated when students pay their or part of their tuition fees or student amenities fees online when logged into thr MySinet portal.
Further, what is the retention period of documents student have submitted to the student centre after the student graduates? The include citizenship information, tax file numbers, various forms filled out such as deferred exam requests, application for recognition of prior learning, as well as students loan forms as well as other personal information submitted to the financial aid office for students that are citizens of countries found here https://future-students.uq.edu.au/apply/...
Please indicate if there are any secondary copies in addition to primary copies and if any of this information is subject to archival. Are there seperate rention times for student that did not gradute and left the program midway?

Further to your email below, I advise:
1. Your email of 31 January 2017 was not a valid application under the
Queensland Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act). To make a formal
application, you must complete the application form, which is available
from

Under the RTI Act, applications must:
o provide sufficient information concerning the document/s to enable
the University to identify the document or documents;
o state the address for the delivery of notices and documents to which
you seek access;
o include suitable evidence of identification if you are seeking access
to your own personal information;
o the application fee of $46.40 must accompany the application.
2. As your email was not a valid application under the RTI Act, not
right for an internal review arises.
3. Finally, your email below seeks answers to specific questions
regarding the relevant Queensland State Archives retention and disposal
schedule. I draw your attention to the comments of the Information
Commissioner in Hearl and Mulgrave Shire Council (1994) 1 QAR 557:
The FOI Act is not an Act which gives persons a legally enforceable right
to obtain answers to questions asked of government agencies, or even to
have government agencies extract answers to questions from documents in
their possession. The legally enforceable right conferred by section 21 of
the FOI Act is a right to be given access under the Act, and subject to
the Act, to documents of an agency and official documents of a Minister.
The right provided in section 23 of the RTI Act is a right to be given
access to particular documents and the above comments regarding the now
repealed Freedom of Information Act 1992 equally apply to the RTI Act.
