Understanding easement

BRONEL made this Government Information (Public Access) request to Blacktown City Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Blacktown City Council should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Blacktown City Council,

I am a house owner of Elara Estate in Marsden Park. I have 1.5m easement at the back of my property with two storm water drainage pits. I am planning to do some landscaping work and would like to make the backyard levelled and do some plants at the back fence.

What are you recommendations for the plants so it wont impact the pipe in long run (roots entering the pipe, etc.). Also, I want to create some kind of garden beds (preferably with masonry blocks), what should I be aware of when doing this? I want to utilise the same to maximum with staying within Blacktown council requirements. Currently there is a fall of less then 600mm towards two drainage pits which ideally I would like to level out.

A detailed guideline around this will be highly appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
B Christian

Dear Mr Christian

Thank you for your Email about landscaping in your back yard. I appreciate you bringing these concerns to my attention.

Council does not have any specifications or guidelines in relation to your request. we suggest you talk to a landscape expert if you are seeking advice.
We can however, tell you that tree roots will not enter properly sealed pipes. They will take advantage of leaking pipes and there is no one tree that is more prone to this than others.
That being said, we always advise that large canopy native species are planted as they are best suited to the environmental conditions in Blacktown.

If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact me on 0456 985 193.

Yours faithfully,

Daniel Leonard

Dear Daniel Leonard,

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.

Can you please advice on the masonary blocks garden bed near the storm water pipe? Also, on leveling the block with less than 600mm fall as per my previous request?

Thank you

Yours sincerely,

BRONEL
