Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey Data
Dear Queensland Department of Education and Training,
Could you please publish a report which shows the results of the 2021 and 2022 Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey for each metropolitan region state high school?
This report might be similar to the Queensland Department of Education and Training's reporting of School Opinion Survey data and provide both student and staff results.
Yours faithfully,
Anonymous
Request for the administrative release of Queensland Engagement and
Wellbeing (QEW) Survey Data is not supported. Provision of school level is
for internal use only as it is used for student management purposes. It is
intended to support schools to positively and proactively support
students’ mental health, school engagement and wellbeing. Unlike the
school opinion survey, it is not a performance metric.
Additionally, this isn’t a report that we currently produce. We do have
aggregated regional reports, but these reports do not show information by
school.
regards

Dear KINSELLA, Christopher,
Thank you for your response. I note that you state that these reports are not produced but don't schools each receive a report?
The DoE has collected this data from students with the consent of parents. I believe the DoE and individual state schools have an obligation and a Duty of Care to share this information with the community. As the DoE is aware, student wellbeing is a key factor in student success and achievement. If the DoE is to adequately support students' mental health, school engagement and wellbeing, it must do so with full transparency and in partnership with parents and the wider community.
Please reconsider. I welcome the publishing of the aggregated regional reports you referenced.
Yours sincerely,

Dear KINSELLA, Christopher,
I note that on page 33 of the 2021-2022 Department of Education Annual Report it states, “The Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey collects information from Queensland state schools to gain a better understanding of student engagement and wellbeing. The survey measures a wide variety of engagement and wellbeing indicators and student experiences at school.
The survey is offered to schools on a voluntary basis each year during Term 2 for students in grades 4 to 12. In 2022, more than 86,000 students from 436 schools participated, with school reports distributed in June.”
The annual report can be found here. https://documents.parliament.qld.gov.au/...
Could you please share this valuable data collected from Qld students with the community? For your convenience, you may limit the search to Metro North secondary schools.
Yours sincerely,

Dear KINSELLA, Christopher,
I have not received a further response from the Qld Department of Education. I note that some schools are reporting QEW survey data in newsletters as if it is a "performance metric" and when the results are positive. To me, there is an apparent lack of transparency and accountability around the use of this "sensitive" student data.

Please share this data with Qld state school parents and customers.
