Dear Macquarie University,

We’re doing a news story about the ghost-writing service.

Could you please send through the punishment strategies or policies when the Macquarie university students breach the academic misconduct? And the relevant documents about academic misconduct please.

If possible, please treat this as an administrative/ informal request. Otherwise please proceed with my request as a formal information request under the Act.

Yours faithfully,

anonymous

On 28 May 2018 you requested information about punishment policies and strategies for academic misconduct at Macquarie University.

The Student Code of Conduct (https://students.mq.edu.au/study/getting...) explains what happens when a misconduct complaint is received. The Code is supported by the Student Discipline Rules. (https://www.mq.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_...)

The Macquarie University Academic Integrity policy can be freely consulted on the website at https://staff.mq.edu.au/work/strategy-pl...
Schedule 2 describes acceptable academic activities and gives clear examples of the type of academic activity that may be considered unacceptable.
This AI Policy replaces the previous Academic Honesty Policy. It is the result of a reappraisal of the University’s approach to Academic Integrity (AI). The Policy covers all staff and all students. It is built around the Academic Integrity Values Statement approved by Academic Senate in 2017. This Statement was developed by a student-led working group and frames AI in terms of engagement with five interrelated values:
• honesty
• respect
• trust
• responsibility
• support.
Since the launch of the new policy, the University has engaged in wide range of communications exercises aimed at both staff and students. Information about the workshops for staff of the University can be accessed in the University’s newsletter,
This Week, 6 April 2018 (https://www.mq.edu.au/thisweek/2018/04/0...)

For students there is a newly designed online learning module that examines a range of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours. Importantly, it provides key strategies for recognising and avoiding plagiarism. The module will become compulsory for all new students in 2019, following a pilot trial this year. A wide variety of other services and resources are provided to help students succeed at all points of their academic life.

If you wish to make a formal GIPA application for access to further information, you will find instructions at https://www.mq.edu.au/about/about-the-un... The formal process will commence with completion of the online application form and payment of $30. The application process will be started once this information is verified and recorded.
