James Smith made this Right to Information request to Department for Education, Children and Young People as part of a batch sent to 204 authorities

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Dear Tasmanian Department of Education,

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

I request documents related to the ten most recent instances where an employee has sought information, advice, guidance, or opinion on their social media use in a private capacity.

I limit the scope of documents to:
- the original request from the employee
- the agency/department's response
- any follow-up questions and response
- only those sent to a relevant HR / conduct / social media (or similar) team (rather than managers across all areas of the organisation)
- where the original request was created in the last 2 years

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

James Smith

Dear Mr Smith

If you wish to access information held by the Department of Education, you
will need to fill out an Application for Assessed Disclosure
[1]https://documentcentre.education.tas.gov...
which allows applicants to explain why the information is sought.

Applications are to be accompanied by the application fee. This fee is 25
units, which is $38.75 as at 1 July 2017 and is indexed annually.

You may apply to have the fee waived if:

·         you are in financial hardship – we take that to mean that you
are on income support payments (we would usually ask to see evidence that
you are in receipt of Centrelink or veterans affairs payments)

·         you are a member of parliament and the application is in
connection with your official duty

·         you are able to give us information which demonstrates that the
information sought is intended to be used for a purpose that is of general
public interest or benefit.

Once this application has been completed, please forward it to Right to
Information Delegate, Department Of Education, GPO Box 169, Hobart,
Tasmania, 7000 or via email to [email address].

Information about the operation of Right to Information in the Department
of Education is available by telephoning (03) 6165 6156 or emailing:

The application was refused because it did not comply with Tasmanian law. Specifically, the applicant did not pay the required fee. The agency officer who replied to the applicant was wrong in one respect. The application form supplied to the applicant does not ask the applicant WHY they want the information. It asks for clarification about WHAT information is wanted.
