Platforms for Accessing Government School Data such as NAPLAN Results
Dear Queensland Department of Education and Training,
I would like to better understand how government schools in Queensland can access their school's respective NAPLAN results, what specific NAPLAN data is provided to the schools and how the NAPLAN data is displayed.
1. Platforms to Access NAPLAN Data for Government Schools in Queensland:
I would like to know what platform the Queensland Department of Education and Training makes available for their government schools (primary and secondary) to access their NAPLAN data, including any websites, types of personalised documents sent to individual schools, and specific software programs. E.g. In NSW, schools have access to their data on a website called, "NSW Schools Online" and a "Scout Reports" tool which is also used in the ACT.
2. Specific Data Disclosed:
I would like to know what data fields are disclosed in the reporting of NAPLAN data to individual government schools in Queensland. E.g. Name, School, Participation Code, Proficiency Standard, Scaled Score, Student Date of Birth, School Postcode etc. I would like to know all data fields given to the schools in Queensland.
3. Data Displays:
Finally, I would like to know how the data is displayed when given to the schools. E.g. Is the data in the format of a spreadsheet? A series of tables? Infographics such as pie charts, box and whisker plots, bar graphs etc? All of the above? A combination of the above display methods?
Thank you very much for taking the time to read through my FOI request and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Yours faithfully,
Eric Bessiris
Good morning Eric
In response to your question about government schools accessing NAPLAN
results, I am happy to provide the following points:
Platforms to Access NAPLAN Data for Government Schools in Queensland:
o The department presents NAPLAN data to schools through an in-house
developed Online Reporting Dashboard. This web based application is
similar to what is used in NSW.
Specific Data Disclosed:
o Schools can see NAPLAN test performance data for their students (scale
score and proficiency level) for each test area. This information is
available at student, class and year level. Student identifying,
demographic information such as Indigenous status, disability, CALD
status, gender etc and test participation status are included.
o Aggregated data for the school, geographic region and state are also
available.
Data Displays:
o The data are provided in various infographic displays such as
trend-line graphs, searchable and sortable tables, and bar charts of
distributions. Some tables can be exported to spreadsheets.
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority also provides a range
of NAPLAN information to all Queensland schools. You may wish to contact
them about the NAPLAN reporting services they provide. Of course, schools
also have access to My School, which also provides ability to benchmark
against national performance. Schools are also able to access additional
reporting products through the NAPLAN online portal. ACARA would be able
to provide further information on this.
kind regards
