FOI, Prime Minister

OFFICIAL

Dear Ms Anthony-Meates Carloff

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) has received your
inquiry dated 24 November 2022. We understand that you wish to make a
request for access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982
(Cth)(FOI Act). Currently your email does not provide sufficient
information to enable an officer of PM&C to identify relevant documents.
The purpose of this email is to assist you with your request and advise
how to make a valid FOI request under the FOI Act.

Validity of your request under the FOI Act

Section 15 of the FOI Act sets out the requirements for a request. A valid
FOI request must, amongst other requirements:

·         provide such information as is reasonably necessary to enable a
responsible officer of the agency or the minister to identify the document
that is requested (s 15(2)(b)).

You have indicated through the subject of your email that you may be
seeking information related to ‘Personal Finance’. PM&C does not hold
information about an individual’s personal finances and you should
consider if you have approached the correct entity with respect to the
information or documents you wish to access. Information about PM&C is
available on our website at
[1]https://www.pmc.gov.au/who-we-are/the-de....

You have also made references to the following terms: ‘Brisbane’,
‘investments’ and ‘purchases’. These terms seem to indicate a purchase or
investment in the State of Queensland and you may be able to seek further
advice or assistance from the Queensland State Government at
[2]https://www.qld.gov.au/contact-us.

Alternatively, you also make reference to the ‘Federal Treasurer’. This is
a separate entity to PM&C and if your request is for documents of the
Federal Treasury you can redirect your request to The Treasury at
[3][email address]. Information about how to make an FOI request to
Treasury is at
[4]https://treasury.gov.au/the-department/a....

Further information about making a valid request is available on the
Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) website at: How
to make an FOI request - [5]http://www.oaic.gov.au/freedom-of-inform...

I hope this information has been of assistance to you.

PM&C will take no further action on this request unless you reply to our
email to advise that you would still like us to continue with processing
your request, however noting that we have advised we require further
information from you regarding the documents you seek from our agency. If
we do not hear from you by 5 December 2022 we will finalise this matter as
withdrawn.

If you have any questions please contact us by replying to this email or
on the number below.

Kind regards

Leisha
