Number of specialists admitted to practice since 2010
Dear Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency,
I am seeking a document, if it exists, that would provide me with the number of medical specialists within each field admitted to practice in Australia; each year since 2010.
Please only include documents possessed by AHPRA or the Medical Board of Australia within this FOI request.
Yours faithfully,
John Smith
Dear Mr Smith,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request to Ahpra, which I
confirm receipt of.
I am writing to draw to your attention, published registration data tables
available on the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) website:
[1]https://www.medicalboard.gov.au/News/Sta....
These tables provide breakdowns of medical specialists by specialty as at
certain points in time. I understand that the published annual reports of
the MBA include this data in graphical format as well.
Could you let me know if this is the information you were looking for? If
so, would you kindly advise me that you would be amendable to withdrawing
your FOI request at this point in time?
Otherwise, please let me know if this is not what you were after.
Kind regards,
Matthew Reghenzani

Dear Matthew Reghenzani,
Thank you for your prompt reply. The information you've pointed out is helpful, I appreciate your assistance.
My main interest is in a slightly different set of data however. What I am looking for is the number of domestic medical graduates that are being admitted as specialists to practice each year, by the Australian medical colleges.
The data in the link you've provided just shows the total number of specialists practicing each year across jurisdictions in Australia.
Its difficult to ascertain from that dataset; how many medical specialists in Australia are admitted through domestic training the colleges, versus admission through the specialist pathway for an International Medical Graduate.
Please advise as to whether AHPRA keeps such records. Thank you for your help thus far.
Yours sincerely,
John Smith
Dear Mr Smith,
I have made the necessary internal investigations and spoken to the

seeking does not already exist in a discrete format or at the level of
specificity requested.
That said, this may be something that we can produce for you with a bit of
time and effort. If this is something you would like to take a further
look at, the Data Requests team would be happy to assist you further. You
can contact them at [1][AHPRA request email] .
On this basis, would you kindly confirm for me the withdrawal of your FOI
request?
