NDARC/DPMP project on reducing stigma and discrimination associated with alcohol and other drugs in Queensland.
Dear Queensland Mental Health Commission,
I would like to request access to a report prepared for the QMHC by the Drug Policy Modelling Project at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the University of New South Wales.
The report addresses effective ways of reducing stigma and discrimination related to alcohol and other drugs.
The project is mentioned on this page of your website
https://www.qmhc.qld.gov.au/research-rev...
I attended the QNADA conference earlier this year where Prof Alison Ritter presented summary findings and mentioned that the project was complete.
Yours faithfully,
Will Tregoning

Dear Mr Tregoning
Thank you for your email dated 18 December 2017 regarding the research report prepared by the Drug Policy Modelling Project (DPMP) on effective ways of reducing stigma and discrimination related to alcohol and other drugs on behalf of the Commission.
The Commission is aware that there is a great interest in seeing the important research that the DPMP has undertaken. We were pleased to work with Professor Ritter to enable the key research findings to be shared at the Australian Winter School.
Since then the Commission has been consulting with state government agencies to capture their views and any activities that they are undertaking. This was outside the scope of the work DPMP were commissioned to conduct. As you may be aware the Queensland Government was in caretaker mode for a month or so, and a new government has recently been formed. This has meant that we have not been able to progress some of the work with some key state government agencies.
The Commission intends to publish a paper aimed at driving reform to address stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with problematic alcohol and other drug use. The report will be informed by the DPMP research, as well as consultation with state government agencies, non-government stakeholders and participants in the recent statewide consultations on the renewal of the Queensland Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Strategic Plan 2014–2019. It is our intention to publicly release the paper and the DPMP research simultaneously in the first quarter of 2018.
Thank you again for your interest and I will ensure that you are provided with copies of the documents once they are released in the new year.
Regards
Queensland Mental Health Commission
