Migrants in detention centres in Australia who didn't arrive by boat but still in what's called a "visa limbo"
Dear Department of Home Affairs,
Through this request we want to know:
1) How many migrants are in detention centres (both within Australia and off shore) to date?
2) How many of them are having their refugee visas requests assessed?
3) How many of them have arrived by boat?
4) How many of them are under 12 and how many under 18
5) How many minors live in detention centres with at least one relative
6) How many minors live in detention centres with no relatives
7) How many migrants have had their visas suspended or cancelled after being prosecuted and served a sentence in Australia?
8) How many of the above (point 7) are in detention centres? Where are the rest?
9) What are the avenues for this group to find a way out of the "visa limbo"?
Yours faithfully,
Florencia Melgar
