Dear Miss Anonymous,
Thank you for your question relating to statistics representing people
experiencing homelessness in Launceston. The City of Launceston do not
have any 2023/24 published statistics relating to homelessness in our
municipality; rather we share anecdotal information between specialist
homelessness service providers and LGAs in the North to estimate the
number of people experiencing homelessness (not available), and those
sleeping rough (at 150 approximately) via our Homelessness Advisory
Committee and Northern Community Action Groups. We also refer to the
housing dashboard data produced by homes Tasmania (see attached for the
May 24 dashboard). We are currently actively advocating to state
government to implement timely data collection methods to support service
provision in Tasmania.
Shelter Tasmania is the peak body for homelessness in Tasmania. We
recommend you seek the most accurate information from the resources
section of their [1]website. They are often the site the Council uses to
confirm our estimates through their published reports. Alternatively,
[2]Homes Tasmania are the state government department responsible for
housing and homelessness. The federal Australian Institute of Health and
Welfare publish monthly reports that can be disaggregated by state. You
may find these data [3]here. The current ABS data for Tasmania is [4]here.
Thank you for your query.
Regards
Linda
