Response to this request is long overdue. Although not legally required to do so, we would have expected Australian Security Intelligence Organisation to have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Australian Secuirty Intelligence Organisation,

I would like to see a copy of any generic (i.e. not specific to a client) guidelines issued to employees of ASIO regarding security assessments for people arriving by boat without a valid visa.

Whilst I understand that ASIO is not covered by FOI, I trust that access to this document would be available administratively.

Yours faithfully,

Ben Fairless

ASIO.BLU, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED

Dear Mr Fairless,

Information about ASIO's role in undertaking visa security assessments is available on the ASIO website, and is included in ASIO's Annual Report to Parliament (also available on the website).

Dear ASIO.BLU,

Thanks for the email. I was actually looking for the process or policy document issued to agents of ASIO which is not visible in either of the locations you requested.

Can you advise further?

Yours sincerely,

Ben Fairless
