Dr. Rosemary Schneider Found Guilty of Professional Misconduct in 2005 after numerous complaints - but why

The request was partially successful.

Dear Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services,

I write to seek transparency on why Dr. Rosemary Schneider, Psychiatrist and the Director of North Tasmania Mental Health, was found guilty of a substantial breach of professional standards by the RANZCP Professional Conduct committee in September 2004.

I also write to seek transparency on how may allegations and complaints were made about Dr. Schneider from both professional and public personnel in her capacity as Director prior to 2005.

I also ask how the Board's investigation of Dr. Schneider determined she was remorseful for her conduct and also confident she would not reoffend even though the severity of her conduct and the impact it had on not one, but many people, was so substantial that it merited a statement from RANZCP.

Yours faithfully,
Clare Holland

Dear Claire,

Thank you for your email.

Information in the possession of a Tribunal, such as the Medical
Complaints Tribunal as it was in 2004, is neither in the possession of
this Department nor subject to the Right to Information Act 2009.

Since 2010, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra)
oversees the medical boards. If you seek information in the possession of
a board, please lodge an application under the Australian Government’s
Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth). More information can be found at
[1]https://www.ahpra.gov.au/About-Ahpra/Pri...

From search of the names of archived documents, there appears to be six
documents that are complaints, or descriptions of complaints, received by
the Department before 2005.

Please lodge a request using the attached Right to Information form if you
would seek further details about these documents. We will require your
certified ID upon submitting the form.

The Department of Health (Tasmania) does not have information on how many
complaints were received by the Health Complaints Commissioner.
Information on how to submit a Right to Information application to the
Department of Justice (under which the Health Complaints Commission sits)
may be found at
