AGD FOI Requests, Attorney-General

Dear FOI People

Freedom of Information Request FOI24/280

On 5 June 2024 you made a request for access to documents under the
Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act) to the Attorney-General for:

All public speeches made by the Attorney-General that contain a
condemnation about the killing of children in the occupied Palestinian
Territories, specifically in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza
Strip since the 7th October 2023. I require all draft and final versions
of these speeches.

The purpose of this email is to advise you that your request has been
transferred to the Attorney-General's Department (the department) from the
Office of the Attorney-General (office).

Under s 16(1) of the FOI Act, an FOI entity can transfer a request if the
requested document is not in the possession of that entity but is in the
possession of another entity or if the subject matter of the document is
more closely connected with the functions of another entity.

Accordingly, on 7 June 2024, the office, with agreement, transferred your
request to the department.

Extension of Time Request

The office received your request on 5 June 2024 and the 30 day statutory
period for processing your request is currently 5 July 2024. The transfer
of your request to the department does not affect the due date for
completion of your request.

Due to an increase in the number of information access applications
currently being received by the department, a case officer is yet to be
allocated and we therefore seek your agreement to an extension of time to
process this request under section 15AA of the FOI Act.

This would mean that a decision about your request would be due on 5
August 2024.

If we are in a position to make a decision earlier than this date, we will
endeavour to do so. The statutory period may also be extended if we need
to consult third parties or for other reasons permitted under the FOI Act.
We will advise you if this happens.

Please reply by return email if you agree to this extension of time. If
you do agree we will notify the Office of the Australian Information
Commissioner (OAIC) of your agreement under section 15AA of the FOI Act,
including your name and contact details.

Other information

The department's practice is to not disclose personal information of staff
of the department and other government authorities, where that information
is not publicly known or routinely disclosed (e.g. names of junior
officers and contact information). The names of senior officers will
generally be disclosed. In addition, duplicates and incomplete email
chains, internal administrative email addresses and metadata within the
scope of the FOI request will be excluded.

Please note that, with some exceptions (such as personal information),
documents released under the FOI Act may later be published online on the
department's disclosure log
