Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Department of Home Affairs should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Department of Immigration and Border Protection,
This Freedom of Information request requires the total capacity of
detention places in immigration detention centres in Australia for the
years 2000-2014. To be more specific I want the number of how many people that hypothetically could be held in immigration detention at the same time in all different types of detention centres or facilities, not depending on the length of detention.
Yours faithfully,
Elin Eriksson

Please have a look at my annotation on the request called "Gender balance of detainees from years 2000-2014" (https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/g...). There are many parts of similarity to this request and my comment on the "Gender balance" request can also speak here.
There is a slight difference with the request on this page. The applicant could change the request easily so that it is for some documents. For example, a person can expect that there will be a design by an architect for the detention centre and also that there is a document that says the "design capacity" for the centre. Also maybe there is a document to say the regulation maximum persons that it is permitted to detain. So, maybe an applicant can say: "I wish to amend my previous request. I request a copy of a document for each approved immigration detention facility that shows (a) the maximum number of detainees for which the facility was designed, and (b) the maximum number of detainess approved by the Department or Minister."
