Dear Mr Burke
Thank you for your email dated 23 December 2016 in which you indicated you
are seeking information from the Department of Communications and the Arts
(Department).
It is not clear from your email whether you intended to submit a request
for documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act).
For a request to be valid under the FOI Act, it must:
(a) be in writing, and state it is an application for the
purposes of the FOI Act;
(b) provide sufficient information concerning the document to
enable the agency to identify it; and
(c) give details of how notices and documents may be sent to the
applicant.
If you did intend to submit a request for access to documents, your
confirmation of this in writing will be sufficient to make your request
valid under the FOI Act. However, we would suggest you ensure that you
also provide further information to identify the documents you are seeking
access to, in order to ensure that the Department is able to undertake
appropriate searches.
I note that the timeframe for completing an FOI request usually takes a
minimum of 30 days, and can take additional time depending on the
complexity of the request and the number of relevant documents identified
in our searches.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please
contact the FOI Team on (02) 6271 1277 or via return email.
Yours sincerely

Dear FOI,
The owner of professional office premises next door, has externally placed "Air conditioner fans"in consoles, these are switched on & off for periods of hours @ a time overnight, disturbing rest time & sleep of pensioners living in this block of units.Since two of them have had a dispute with this "owner" these fans have been switched on & off many times overnight,NO accident methinks,so if it can be ascertained to be switched from off premises,we may be able to insist that fans be only operated during business hours, your help will be critical in this search for our peace of mind & restful sleep overnight. Thanking you in anticipation, Alan B.
Yours sincerely,
Alan Burke

Dear Mr Burke
Thank you for your email. Please note that the Department of
Communications and the Arts administers legislation and provides policy
analysis and advice to the Australian Government about the communications
industry—television, radio, Internet, phone, post, and the changes in
digital technologies so Australians can enjoy the benefits of modern
communications.
Accordingly, we are very unlikely to hold any documents about
air-conditioning systems.
Please note that laws in relation to noise disputes between neighbours are
the responsibility of local government authorities and police. If you
have not already done so, you may wish to consider contacting your local
council or your local community legal centre for advice about this issue.
Yours sincerely,

Also, my.gov.au is run by the department of human services, not Communications. You could ask them: https://www.righttoknow.org.au/new/dhs

Dear Department of Communications and the Arts,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Department of Communications and the Arts's handling of my FOI request 'Telephone apps.'.
[ My question is simple;IS there an app.4 using a phone to switch on // off an airconditioner unit? NOT a particular one or two or seven,or a particular brand! Just is an app. available to do these two tasks mentioned?
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/t...
Yours faithfully,
Alan Burke

Hey Alan,
Ben here - I'm a volunteer on this site.
The department of Communications probably doesn't monitor apps that are available to turn on/off air conditioners remotely. I know that you can get home automation systems to do this (Sensibo and Nest come to mind as products) but it always requires something else (unless your home is already setup for it).
The department will likely refuse your request as they won't monitor what apps exist. Hope this helps somewhat!
Thanks,
Ben
