Dear Civil Aviation Safety Authority,
Please supply me with documents held by CASA which include the following:
Annual breakdowns of the number of applications for Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioners Certificates (RAMPC), Basic Class 2 medical certificates, Class 2 medical certificates, Class 1 medical certificates and Class 3 medical certificates.
Annual breakdowns of the number of issued Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioners Certificates (RAMPC), Basic Class 2 medical certificates, Class 2 medical certificates, Class 1 medical certificates and Class 3 medical certificates.
Annual breakdowns of the number of Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioners Certificates (RAMPC), Basic Class 2 medical certificates, Class 2 medical certificates, Class 1 medical certificates and Class 3 medical certificates which were refused by CASA.
Annual breakdowns of the number of Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioners Certificates (RAMPC), Basic Class 2 medical certificates, Class 2 medical certificates, Class 1 medical certificates and Class 3 medical certificates which were issued with special conditions.
I believe CASA AvMed maintains a regular series of statistical reports which contains the data I'm looking for, but I'm also open to finding it from other responsive documents.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Newton

Dear Ms Kiewiet,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I’m interested in annual reporting going back to the instigation of the RAMPC scheme, which is, from my recollection, 2012.
If there is a single document which lays out tables counting applications, issuances and refusals for the last (say) ten years which was written in the last 12 months, that would be ideal.
Failing that, responsive pages from documents containing annual reporting would be appropriate.
Given that we’re entering yet another round of triennial medical certification reform, it would surprise me if CASA AVMED hadn’t supported the reform process by creating at least one recent document containing this information in a convenient and brief format.
Yours sincerely,
Mark Newton

Thank you for confirming Mark.
I note that such statistics are recorded in CASA's annual reports (see 2020-21, https://www.casa.gov.au/search-centre/an...).
Can you please advise whether this satisfies as the data that you are seeking?

Dear Ms Kiewiet,
Thank you for your reference to the operational statistics in the CASA annual report, particularly table A.6 on page 176, which contains the last three years of data I was looking for.
I confess to spending more than an hour googling for a table like that before I lodged my FOI request, unsuccessfully.
I have not yet had time to delve deeper, but I gather previous annual reports will include similar data, and with enough digging I’ll have the full history I was looking for.
On that expectation, I’m happy to withdraw this FOI request, with thanks.
Best regards,
Mark Newton
