Dear Chris H
Thank you for your email dated 18 February 2022 in which you made a
request to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (the
Department) under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act), in the
following terms:
I would like to request a copy of the document used to recite prayers in
parliament.
It is the [1]Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) who have a role in
supporting the Australian Parliament and the documents you have sought to
access may be publicly available at the following links:
Department of the House of Representatives
[2]https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/...
The prayer is also available in the Department of the House of
Representatives Standing Orders, Standing Order 38 at page 30

Department of the Senate

Section 11 of the FOI Act relevantly provides that a person is entitled to
obtain access under the FOI Act to ‘a document of an agency’. Information
about the role and functions of the Department is available at
[5]www.pmc.gov.au and the information you have sought to access is not
within our functions. Therefore, we do not consider that your request, in
its current form, constitutes a valid request for our Department. Given
that DPS is excluded from the FOI Act this request could not be
transferred (s. 68A of the Parliamentary Service Act).
We hope that the above information and links are of assistance to your
inquiry.
Yours sincerely,
Adviser | FOI Section[]
