Plan for retired non-LED lighting
Dear Sydney Trains,
I've noticed the roll out of new LED lighting across the Sydney Trains network - nice work! Under informal GIPA access, I'd like to request the most recent document that describes the plan for what will happen to the retired non-LED lighting equipment.
Many thanks,
Henare

I forgot my question for Henare Degan. I like public transport so it is interesting to me. Where is the new lighting on Sydney Trains. Does this mean lights inside the train carriages or does this mean lights in railway stations that are owed by the business called Sydney Trains?

Hi Locutus, the lighting I'm referring to is around the stations. The newer trains do have LED lighting but they're not retrofitting old trains with LED lighting as far as I know.
Dear Henare,
I refer to your informal request for information regarding retirement of non-LED lighting. We've received some information internally in relation to your inquiry.
I am informed by Sydney Trains' Environment Division that, in line with our Environment and Sustainability Policy, the old lighting fixtures are recycled, wherever possible. However, in our search for information relating to your request there was no specific document identified which describes the 'plan for what will happen to the retired non-LED lighting equipment'.
I am happy to discuss the request further with you if you would like to call me directly on ph. 8202 3630.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Regards
David

Hi David,
That's really helpful, thanks to taking the time to look into my request.
Cheers,

I found this request very interesting because of the words "informal GIPA access" in the request by the applicant. When I read this on Wednesday I thought that it is a slang expression (sorry!). Today when I read the words "your informal request" with the informal tone of the reply from the officer, I decided that maybe it was not slang. Maybe "informal request" is a formal expression!
For this reason today I found the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW) and I read in s 8 about informal requests in New South Wales. My impression is that an "informal request" in New South Wales is similar with a request for "administrative access" to a Commonwealth of Australia agency under the Coommonwealth FOI Act. Nothing forces an agency to accept or respond to an informal request or a request for administrative access but it can be to the advantage of the agency if it does accept the request. I can be much similar to have an informal request and to escape from the cage of the Freedom of Information Act or the Government Information (Public Access) Act.
Meget interessant!
