Internal Processes of Handling Appeals in College of Engineering and Computer Science
Dear Australian National University,
I am writing to request the current internal process of handling students' appeals received on assoc.dean.edu.cecs at anu.edu.au, in particular who have the access to this email account, who are supposed to monitor the email account daily and how they are supposed to act after receiving emails. As far as I know the Associate Dean (Education) does not monitor the email account daily, but rather there is a secretary-like person who handles the emails and possibly actually directs it to ADE. I would like to know who this person is and the guidelines/processes according to which he/she should work. In case the name of the person cannot be disclosed directly, I would like the job title to be disclosed.
Yours faithfully,
ZF
Dear Australian National University,
I confirm that I am requesting under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth),
in case you need such confirmation explicitly.
Yours faithfully,
ZF

Dear ZF,
Regarding your attached Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the
University.
Unfortunately, your request, as it stands, does not provide such
information as is reasonably necessary to enable a responsible officer to
identify the document(s) requested, as is required by section 15(2)(b) of
the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act).
A failure to comply with this requirement is classified as a ‘practical
refusal reason’ for which a ‘request consultation process’ under the FOI
Act is required.
However, in an effort to informally resolve this failure, I request that
you refine the scope of your request and provide the following information
so that a search can be conducted to locate the documents you are
requesting access to:
· Under the FOI Act, I would like to access the number of
international students currently enrolled at the ANU, who are citizens of
the Republic of China.
o Please clarify if you are only seeking access regarding students who
are citizens of the Republic of China (Taiwan)?
o Please clarify what specific documents you are seeking.
o Are you seeking access to documents regarding students enrolled at the
date of your request? Please advise of a specific time frame.
Your sincerely

Dear ZF,
I am writing regarding your attached Freedom of Information (FOI) request
to the University. This request appears to be for information rather than
for access to documents of the University. The FOI Act provides for access
to documents in the possession of an agency.
Unfortunately, your request, as it stands, does not provide such
information as is reasonably necessary to enable a responsible officer to
identify the document(s) requested, as is required by section 15(2)(b) of

A failure to comply with this requirement is classified as a ‘practical
refusal reason’ for which a ‘request consultation process’ under the FOI
Act is required.
However, in an effort to informally resolve this failure, I request that
you refine the scope of your request and provide sufficient information
for a search to be conducted to locate documents you are requesting access
to. Can you please clarify the following aspects:
· request the current internal process of handling students'
appeals received on assoc.dean.edu.cecs at anu.edu.au, in particular who
have the access to this email account, who are supposed to monitor the
email account daily and how they are supposed to act after receiving
emails.

directly, I would like the job title to be disclosed.
o Please provide sufficient information to enable us to identify the
documents you seek eg correspondence, procedures, etc.
o Are you seeking documents in a specific date range? If so, please
specify the scope and date range of documents you are seeking access to.
I can advise you that information about student appeals is published on
the ANU website on the Assessments and exams page at
[1]https://www.anu.edu.au/students/program-...
and ANU policies, procedures and guidelines are published in the ANU

Dear ZF,
I refer to your request for access to documents under the Freedom of
Information Act 1982 received on 10 August 2019.
On 16 August 2019, the University advised you that your request was not
valid in its current form and further clarification was required.
On 10 September 2019, a reminder was sent again seeking further
clarification. In both emails you were advised that if no response was
received, the University intended to commence the formal consultation
process.
On 24 September 2019, the University provided you with the formal
consultation notification where you were notified that you had 14 days to
respond or your request would be considered to be withdrawn.
Accordingly, as no response has been received after the conclusion of the
14 day time frame, your request is now considered to be withdrawn.
