Inflow levels (rainfall), outflow levels (bulk water supply to WaterNSW) and storage for Warragamba Dam specifically, for 1995 to 2017.
Dear Water NSW,
I would like data in excel spreadsheet form for Warragamba Dam specifically. The weekly water storage and supply reports published on your website are extremely helpful, however I am interested in Warragamba Dam only and would therefore like the inflow, storage and outflow levels for this dam, rather than just NSW generally. Aggregate inflow data would be preferable over individual data from the four tributaries into the dam.
I am interested in about a 20 year period, but the exact dates written above are open to change.
Lastly, if possible I am also looking at the proposed environmental flow regime under the 2017 Metropolitan Water Plan and understand that various reports have informed this component of the plan. A pointer to a report where an environmental benefit function, or some other way of valuing releases to the river system through the e-flows, would be very helpful.
Yours faithfully,
Evelyn Fox Koob
Dear Water NSW,
I would like to remind you to please respond to my request for data on Warragamba Dam. The most important information I require is inflows, outflows and storage levels.
Yours faithfully,
Evelyn Fox Koob

Dear Jodi Butfield,
Thank you very much for your assistance. However, I am unsure which variables the columns respond to, specifically columns B to E in the first spreadsheet and columns B and C in the second spreadsheet. There is also a lot of inconsistency over which data points are given for each time period, is this due to data availability?
Yours sincerely,
Evelyn Fox Koob
Thank you for your email. I will seek clarification from the team who provided the spreadsheet.
I will contact you once I receive a response.

Dear Ms Koob
I have been advised the following:
In Tab 1 - The data in column b through E is discharge megs per day In tab 2 - The data in column b through c is discharge megs per day
Time series data is available for inflow sites however the same gaps will be present when aggregated.
I hope this information assists.

Dear Jodi Butfield,
Thanks for that, would I also be able to get the time series data for inflow sites? Given the gaps it would be helpful to get the data for inflow sites individually, otherwise in aggregate.
Yours sincerely,
Evelyn Fox Koob
Dear Ms Koob
Further to my email below I wish to advise you that I sent you the incorrect version of the spreadsheet. Our data team now provide the attached.
Please advise if you require any further assistance.
My apologies for the error.

Dear Jodi Butfield,
Thanks for the last spreadsheet. Is it possible to get the same pieces of data for a larger time period, for example from the early 1900's?
Yours sincerely,
Evelyn Fox Koob
Dear Jodi Butfield,
With regards to my last follow-up request, I apologise for mistakenly asking for data from before 1960, when the dam was built. I would like to request data from the earliest date available, for the variables I requested previously but with some adjustments/clarifications as listed below.
The levels data I understand to be in metres. The weekly verified storage and supply reports for WaterNSW indicate that storage data is available in ML as well. I would like to request this available storage (ML) data for the available period.
I also have some issues with the data I received.
Regarding the outflows data, firstly, there is no outflow data for net raw discharges from 1995 till July 1999, and then there is another gap from November 1999-2003. The cross connection discharge variables have no data until 2006. I am not sure why there is no data available in these periods?
Secondly, as I understand it, water from Warragamba dam is released into three water filtration plants (WFPs). Data is given for the first two (net raw discharge to Warragamba WFP and net raw discharge to Orchard Hills WFP) but not for Prospect WFP, which is the main supplier of Sydney Water. I am not sure if the ‘net raw discharge to cross connection’ variables refer to discharges to the Prospect WFP? I am primarily interested in the bulk water supply to consumers, or municipal consumption of water from Warragamba Dam, so some clarification about how the outflows data relates to this would be very helpful.
Yours sincerely,
Evelyn Fox Koob
Dear Ms Koob
I refer to your email below and wish to advise you of the following:
The data provided is from the start of the digitised record – all
available data has been extracted.
Available storage or ML is a calculation based on a look up table - now
contained within the xls.
Systems used to collect and hold the information over the years have
varied, original systems used did archive data, hence there are some data
gaps. Attached is a second XLS (Warra_PL_Daily_FLOW_to_PWFP) which
contains manual read (derived by operators) which may be a substitute for
the missing data for flow to Prospect WFP.
The combination of Flow Mtr 5 and Flow Mtr 6 would give the total volume
supplied to Prospect Water Filtration Plant.
Flow MTR7 is water supplied to prospect reservoir.
I hope this information assists you.
