Thank you for your email. I do not believe that the Department of Health
WA will be the correct agency to assist you to obtain the information you
are looking for.  Suicides generally occur in the community rather than
within a Hospital or health service.

 

Deaths occurring in the community that are suspected to be suicides would
be investigated by the Coroner or members of WA Police empowered under the
Coroners Act. This would enable the completion by a medical professional
of the Medical Certificate Cause of Death (MCCD) and this document is
submitted by funeral directors to the Births Deaths and Marriages agency
within the state where the individual deceased.

 

Please see the attached link for requesting information held by WA Police
under FOI, although I am unsure whether statistical information related to
the demographics of individuals committing suicide will be held: [1]Apply

Demographic information from the MCCD is submitted to the Australian
Bureau of Statistics, there is information relevant to your request on

I would also suggest contacting the Australian Department of Health as it
is likely statistics of the nature you are seeking would be compiled and

Please provide information on indigenous suicide numbers by age and sex for the past 10 years (by year) from 2014-2024 or as current as is possible.  In the understanding that you will not have this data by Noongar region, please provide it by either LGA (so that we can reconstruct the Noongar region), or alternatively the State Regional Development Commission boundaries.
