Dear FOI,

Thank you for your reply. I would like to confirm that I would still like to have my application processed under the terms I have submitted.

I would also like to have an assurance that the decision maker allocated this application will make a decision independent to the document and decision you provided me (FOI 3116), particularly with reference to matters the Department believes is exempt under Division 3 of the Act.

I expect to be provided detailed explanation for redactions made using these exemptions and how they meet a public interest test.

Yours sincerely,

JH

Dear JH

Thank you for your email.

We wish to seek your agreement to two matters.

Firstly, we wish to seek your agreement to an extension of time under
section 15AA of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth).  We ask for
this additional time due to the complex nature of an incoming government
brief, and the requirement to consult within the department with relevant
officers over a range of subject-matter.  We request an additional 30 days
to process the request.  If you agree, we will notify the Office of the
Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) of your agreement.  If you do
not agree, we may apply to OAIC for additional time to process your
request.

Secondly, we wish to treat your request for access as two separate
requests for access, made on the same date.  We request you revise the
scope of your requests as follows:

1) The incoming government brief provided from the Department to the
Minister for Foreign Affairs since 21 May 2022.

2) The incoming government briefs provided from the Department to the
Minister for Trade and Tourism and the Minister for International
Development and the Pacific since 21 May 2022.

This will assist with the efficient processing of your request for access
to documents.

Please advise us if you have any concerns with this revision.

Kind regards

DFAT FOI Team
