Dear MJ
I refer to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 seeking
access to pages 20-23 of the Incoming Government Brief.
I note that your request was addressed to the Minister for Foreign
Affairs, however, it was sent directly to the Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade. The Minister’s Office and the Department are separate
entities under the FOI Act 1982, however, the Department will proceed to
process your request as the document which you seek access to is part of
our portfolio responsibility.
I would like to take this opportunity to seek a 30-day extension of time
for the processing of your request, pursuant to section 15AA of the FOI
Act. If you agree to this extension, the new due date will be 18 November
2013, however, the Department will endeavour to provide you with its
decision before then.
I would be grateful if you could respond to this extension request by
return email to: [1][Minister for Foreign Affairs request email]

Dear MJ
Extension of time request under s15AB
On 21 October 2013 the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade requested
further time to make a decision on your FOI request of 19 September 2013.
This request was on the basis that the processing period is insufficient
to deal adequately with your request because it is complex.
The Information Commissioner has decided not to grant the Department of
Foreign Affairs And Trade an extension of time. This decision has been
made under s15AB(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) (the
Act).
If you would like to discuss this matter you may contact me on 1300 363
992 or via email [2][email address].
Yours sincerely
