I wish to see evidence of environmental vandalism the corner of Pollack Esplanade and Carrington Street ,Woolgoolga
Dear Coffs Harbour City Council,
A sign alleging environmental vandalism along with extensive orange netting has been erected opposite my house at 14 Pollack Esplanade, Woolgoolga. By default,as the closest and if not only property adjacent to this, townspeople here in Woolgoolga think I have done something wrong.This sign is defamatory to me and to my wife and also my neighbours.I request all evidence provided to council by employees and contractors regarding this matter. This is an urgent matter and I hope you appreciate the serious nature of this request
Yours faithfully,
Dr Des Hughes

For the attention of Des Hughes,
In relation to your email dated 13 March 2021, I relay advice from
Council’s Director Sustainable Infrastructure as follows:
1. In December 2020 Council became aware during a site visit that
six ‘saplings’ (defn: trees with a diameter of less than 120mm) had been
cut down, by parties unknown. Refer to attached photo (Photo – Four 100mm
dia Saplings);
2. Additionally a herbicide had been applied, by parties unknown, to
the undergrowth in the same area which became, as a result, rather bare.
Refer attached photos (Photo – Sprayed Area within Stringline) and (Photo
Sprayed Area);
3. Council officers have formed a view that the trees had been
deliberately rather than accidentally vandalised (by parties unknown).
Refer to attachment above (Photo – Deliberately Sawn Cuts). Council
officers formed the same view in relation to the herbicide application
within the same area;
4. Refer to Council’s adopted [1]Vegetation Vandalism Policy (its
concurrent Procedure was implemented from that point on for guidance).
Refer to attachments above (POL – 091 & the Vegetation Vandalism
Procedure);
5. In accordance with the Procedure, Council’s Senior Environmental
Project Officer and Team Leader Biodiversity carried out and completed the
damage assessment referred to in Council’s Procedure [attached];
6. Based on the outcome of that assessment, and in accordance with
the requirements of the Policy and Procedure, the site has now been
‘signed’ and fenced off until repairs are effected. Refer to attachment
above (Enviro Vandalism Sign).
The assessment is the attached Vegetation Vandalism Woolgoolga Whale Trail
(002).
