Food safety inspections for the years 2014, 2015, 2016
Dear Local Council,
Can you please provide me with the number of food safety inspections carried out in your area annually, for the last three years?
How many warning were issued each year and how many fines each year?
What percentage of all food outlets did the council inspect each year?
Have any outlets been shut down for non-compliance and if so what for and how many?
What were the worst offences/biggest fines for each year?
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Gladstone

Dear Nigel
Thank you for your request. Your request will be treated as a Formal (GIPA) Access Application.
Could you please fill in the attached form and could you pay the $30 charge. Once this is done, please send it back to Council so we can process your information request. Could you also clarify if it is in relation to the Ashfield local area or for the whole Inner West Council.
Kind regards
Mary

Dear Mary,
I am happy to take information from just Ashfield council's area or the inner west as an amalgamated council depending which, is easier for you.
Other councils have treated my request in accordance with section 8 of the GIPA Act,
as an informal request to access information.
Why has your council decided to treat it as a formal request?
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Gladstone

Dear Nigel,
The NSW Food Authority can be contacted to assist you in your request for information as the Authority collects certain statistical information from NSW Councils that may be of relevance to your request.
If further detailed information is required then a Formal Access Application should be completed and returned to Council so that your information request can be processed in accordance with legislative requirements under the GIPAA 2009. The basis for a Formal Application in this instance is, but not limited to, diversion of Council's resources e.g. time to compile, collate, verify and validate the data. Further information in relation to access applications is contained in the attached fact sheet and link pertaining to the diversion of resources http://www.ipc.nsw.gov.au/unreasonable-a... from the Information and Privacy Commission NSW.
The $30 fee counts towards the first hour of processing with additional processing fee at $30 per hour.
Kind Regards,
Mary

Dear Mary,
Can I please clarify that I want to know how many high and medium risk food businesses were inspected in each year (2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16) and what percentage of the total number of these were inspected in each year, how many warnings, formal improvement notices and fines were issued in each year? How many outlets were shut down each year, if any?
This request is very simple as all the information I am asking for is contained in an annual report all councils provide to the NSW food Authority.
If you do not have a copy of it, you can request it from the food authority and they will email it back to you. I am happy to go through the form myself to get the information as several other councils have sent it to me.
Unfortunately, the Food authority will not release the forms as it is third party information so I have to request it from all councils individually. I have already received this information from more than 50 councils now without the need for a formal GIPA as it is an informal request.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Gladstone

Dear Ashfield Council,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Ashfield Council's handling of my FOI request 'Food safety inspections for the years 2014, 2015, 2016'.
I have received this information from more than 60 other councils in NSW and am told it would take just one email to the food authority to get the forms I am requesting. The information is in these forms that are sent each year and I will extract it from them so there is no council officer time involved in the request other than sending one email.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/f...
