Food safety inspections for the years 2014, 2015, 2016
Dear Local Council,
Can you please provide me with the number of food safety inspections carried out in your area annually, for the last three years?
How many warning were issued each year and how many fines each year?
What percentage of all food outlets did the council inspect each year?
Have any outlets been shut down for non-compliance and if so what for and how many?
What were the worst offences/biggest fines for each year?
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Gladstone

Hi Nigel
I refer to your request concerning inspection and enforcement activity information conducted within the former Warringah Council area for the last 3 years.
We are currently working to proactively make such information easily available and this is why we have implemented Scores on Doors within the former Warringah Council area and have adopted the roll out of Scores on Doors across the new Northern Beaches Council area.
In relation to the information requested, Council submits annual activity reports to the NSW Food Authority which details information such as inspection rates and enforcement actions. This information is used by the Food Authority to produce an Activity Summary report, copies of which can be found at the following link: http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/rp/f...
The NSW Food Authority also publishes information regarding the Penalty Infringement notices (PIN’s) issued by each council including the former Warringah Council area. If you click on the following link and enter ‘Warringah’ to the search field a list of all the published PIN’s will be available for you to view. http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/pena...
In addition to this the NSW Food Authority publishes information regarding successful prosecutions. You can click on the following link and view all listed as Warringah in the council area field. http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/offe...
Council also publishes the details of all food businesses that currently achieve a 3, 4 or 5 star score under the scores on doors program. This information is published on the sores on the doors website at the following address http://www.scoresondoors.org/ or you can download the app for free on to your apple or android device.
Should you require any additional information to what is listed above an application will need to be made via a GIPA request. Information on how to make an GIPA information request can be obtained at the following link: http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/your-cou...
Should you have any further questions or wish to discuss the above please contact me on 9942 2217 or [email address]

Dear Eleanor Bentley,
This request is very simple as all the information I am asking for is contained in an annual report all councils provide to the NSW food Authority. The food authority send an email form each year and it is emailed back to them. Lane Cove council had it in their document management system but if you do not you can request it from the food authority and they will email it back to you.
The Food authority will not release the forms as it is third party information so I have to request it from all councils individually. I have already received this information from several councils without the need for a GIPA or any paper work as it is an informal request.
Yours sincerely,
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Gladstone
Hi Nigel
In regards to your subsequent response I wish to reiterate that that our advice is that your request necessitates a GIPA request.
Information on how to make a GIPA information request can be obtained at the following link: http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/your-cou...
Should you have any further questions or wish to discuss the above please contact me on 9942 2217 or [email address]

Dear Eleanor Bentley,
The information did not take a GIPA at six other councils and took "about ten minutes" to find at other councils, so I fail to see why this is classified as "necessitates a GIPA request".
If you do not have the email you sent to the food authority in your records system you can ask Ben Lees at the food authority to send it to you. This is not an onerous task and I hope to avoid the unnecessary extra paperwork that a formal GIPA requires from both myself and you.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Gladstone
