Food safety inspections for the years 2014, 2015, 2016
Dear Local Council,
Can you please provide me with the number of food safety inspections carried out in your area annually, for the last three years?
How many warning were issued each year and how many fines each year?
What percentage of all food outlets did the council inspect each year?
Have any outlets been shut down for non-compliance and if so what for and how many?
What were the worst offences/biggest fines for each year?

Can I suggest that you may do better by contacting the NSW council food authority local government liaison manager, Ben Lees at the NSW Food Authority. The authority compiles annual reports of the activity in the whole state, and that will give you better and more informed data through the one contact point

This request is very simple as all the information I am asking for is contained in an annual report all councils provide to the NSW food Authority. The food authority send an email form each year and it is emailed back to them. Lane Cove council had it in their document management system but if you do not you can request it from the food authority and they will email it back to you.
The Food authority will not release the forms as it is third party information so I have to request it from all councils individually. I have already received this information from several councils without the need for a GIPA or any paper work as it is an informal request.

Hello Nigel, I apologise for the slow reply, I have a few things on my plate.
There are the results for the last three years of food premises inspections undertaken in what was Tumut Shire up until the 12 May 2016, at which time the Councils of Tumbarumba and Tumut were merged into a single local government entity, being Snowy Valleys Council.

Number of other Commercial Premises172227
These inspections were largely undertaken by external contractors.
During this reporting period, there were no PIN's issued.
A number of premises had improvement notices issued and the matters were resolved quickly with the food premises operators.

I am a journalist and intend to write a story about the process of asking all NSW councils for this information as well as a story about how robust the food safety inspection regime is in NSW. Many people do not realise how many inspections are carried out and I think it would be a good thing to show how many outlets are inspected, and comply or are warned about possible problems each year.

We have in the last 3 years issued 1 improvement notice but have responded to 4 complaints. Please note this is data for the former Tumbarumba Shire Council only.

Hi Nigel,
I can only give you information on the former Tumbarumba Shire Council as I don't have the Tumut Shire details but I will ask Ken to provide these for you.
Warnings over the past 2 years for the former Tumbarumba Shire Council - 4
In 2015 for the former Tumut Shire there were no improvement notices sent and 1 warning letter.
We inspect twice a year and the percentage was 100%. The former Tumbarumba Shire had 33 food related businesses.
Since the merger with the former Tumut Shire Council the number has increased to 100 food related businesses.
The 2016 inspection program is still in progress and will not be finalised until 30/6/16 so I have no information available for this year.
