Hi Locutus,
The incident number here can be found by browsing the data on www.detentionlogs.com.au - the incident numbers are drawn from the Immigration Department's own files. When your browse the incidents you can hit the 'adopt an incident' button and it will automatically take you to the right to know site.
Cheers!
Paul

Paul. You appear to have a good sense of how this site works, so perhaps you can help others in your cause. I sent a message earlier today to three people including Zoe Szwarcbord. She appears not to know that the message has come from another RightToKnow user.
There is a problem. Many of you have named one incident report in the header of your email but then named, specifically, incident 1-2UMYBH in the body of the email. I must guess that you all copied an example text and forgot to change it. If you do not send a correction follow-up to Immigration then they might consider access to just one document (1-2UMYBH )!
Sometimes there is another similar error with an incident in the header not matching the incident in the email body. This might also lead to problems and delay.
This is not a problem with every request but with many. Look to an example with Sophie Kennedy (https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/f...).

Hi Locutus,
Thanks, yes I've worked out what the problem is. The Global Mail have not implemented their text correctly, so when users are redirected from their visualisation to RtK the body text reverted to that single incident number. Their visualisation team has been informed and the problem is being corrected. In the meantime we will try to make annotations on all the requests here that are incorrect.

Dear Mr Walz
Thank you for your FOI request below.
I am writing to advice that the department is unable to treat your request as valid due to the operation of Section 15 of the FOI Act.
Section 15 of the FOI Act states that FOI requests for access must provide such information concerning the document as is reasonably necessary to enable a responsible officer of the agency to identify it.
As the incident report you have requested in the subject of your email is different to the incident report you have requested in the body of the email, we are not able to determine which incident report you are actually seeking.
Grateful if you could please clarify what you are seeking, otherwise the department will not be progressing this request. For your information I have included the relevant section of the FOI Act below.
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 1982 - SECT 15 Requests for access Persons may request access
(1) Subject to section 15A, a person who wishes to obtain access to a document of an agency or an official document of a Minister may request access to the document.
Requirements for request
(2) The request must:
(a) be in writing; and
(aa) state that the request is an application for the purposes of this Act; and
(b) provide such information concerning the document as is reasonably necessary to enable a responsible officer of the agency, or the Minister, to identify it; and
(c) give details of how notices under this Act may be sent to the applicant (for example, by providing an electronic address to which notices may be sent by electronic communication).
I hope this information is of assistance and I look forward to your response.
Kind Regards
Erin Welsh

I have a request. I searched Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ixquick and DuckDuckGo but I did not get any result for "1-6F45B9". So how can it be that you know the incident number? Maybe this is secret information and you do not wish to show your source! But if it is public information, please add an annotation to explain where the incident number was discovered. There may be other people who wish to make a similar application.
