Drug possession data by Indigenous status
Dear NSW Police Force,
could you please provide a data table showing the number of all offenders and the number of offenders identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, listed by police area command/police district for the period 1 October 2023 to September 30 2024, for the following offences:
Use/possess any drug (i.e., the total across all drugs including those listed below)
Use/possess cocaine
Use/possess cannabis
Use/possess amphetamines
Use/possess ecstasy
Use/possess other drugs

Good afternoon Will,
Thank you for your inquiry to the NSW Police Force.
In order to make a request for NSW Police Force information, an applicant is required to submit a completed 'Formal Access' application under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
Below are instructions to submit an application online:
In your browser, type: portal.police.nsw.gov.au, then Enter.
You will be in the NSW Police Community Portal.
At the bottom of the screen, select “Access to Information”.
In the next screen, select “Continue”.
In the next screen, in the dropdown box, select “New Access Application”.
You will be asked 6 questions – Yes/No answers are required. If you are unsure, answer No, then continue on with the application.
There is a $30 application fee payable by credit card. The funds will NOT be deducted immediately - please ensure that you have available funds in your account for up to 5 business days.
Submit your application.
You will receive an email within 5 business days to confirm that your request has been validated and the $30.00 application fee will be deducted at this time.
Your GIPA application may take up to 20 business days to be completed – we are unable to expediate any applications.
