Drug driving. THC Only.
Dear Transport Accident Commission Victoria,
I am making a freedom of information request for a study.
1: how many drivers have tested positive only for THC, not any other substance.
2: how many fatalities were caused by people driving only positive with THC in their system.
These requested are only for THC and not any other mixture of drugs or alcohol.
Yours faithfully,
Jason Chahine.
Good morning Jason,
Thank you for contacting the FOI team at the TAC. A formal FOI request to
the TAC is likely to be unnecessary as the information you requested may
either already be publically available, available upon request, or your
query may be better directed to another agency.
You requested information regarding driver testing for THC. Victoria
Police have the right to pull drivers over and test their saliva for
illicit drugs including THC, they conducted 150,000 drug tests in 2019.
For that reason you may wish to direct that request for information to
Victoria Police.
Similarly another agency such as VicRoads may be able to better assist
you. You might be particularly interested in the Crash Statistics service
they control. VicRoads are also responsible for driver licensing and the
demerit point system in Victoria. They have a range of information
available specifically regarding cannabis, THC and driving.
You can also explore statistics and information already available online.
For example you could start by searching the Statistics section of the
TAC website at [1]www.tac.vic.gov.au . If you are still unable to find
what you are after, you could submit a query to the TAC at
[email address]. I suggest you do that before making an FOI request.
If however you want to proceed with making a formal FOI request to the TAC
you will need to validate your request by paying the application fee or
providing evidence of financial hardship. The FOI team can be reached
directly here at [Transport Accident Commission Victoria request email] if you would like assistance with
that.
I hope this information is of some assistance and wish you all the best.
Kind regards,
Emily
