Documents which show breaches and alleged breaches of the Major Events Act 2013
Dear SA Attorney-General's Department,
On 24/11/16 I was refused basic information by your communications unit about breaches of the Major Events Act 2013.
I am seeking any documents held by AGD, generated by SAPOL or AGD which quantify breaches and alleged breaches - excluding personal identities - of the Major Events Act 2013 since it was enacted, and also pass comment on the effectiveness or otherwise of the Act.
My original, rejected, communications unit request was:
"Hello AGD media. I am trying to research an article about ticket scalping based on the Major Events Act 2013, which came into force in December 2013. I understand OCBA is regularly updated on Police statistics about breaches of the Act and am seeking data on the number of alleged breaches detected since the Act came into place. The Act I am seeking information about is defined in the law handbook: "The Major Events Act 2013 (SA) makes it an offence for a person to sell tickets for a declared major event without the permission of the organiser at a price higher than 10% of the face value of the ticket, and imposes significant fines for doing so. However, this is dependent on the declaration that an event is ‘major’, which may not necessarily apply to all events such as concerts or sporting events." Thank you. Miles"
Yours faithfully,
Miles Kemp
