Dear University Records Manager & FoI Officers,
I am writing to ask about the difference between the estimated and actual costs charged for the fulfillment of this FoI request. In earlier correspondence, I was advised that $60 was the estimated total. In this more recent letter, I have been advised that the total fee is now $95, and that I now owe the University a balance of $35 dollars.
Do you consider it reasonable to charge over 50% more than the original estimated cost for the release of these documents? It strikes me that in future it would be wiser for your staff to be more conservative in your estimation to avoid shocking the requester with a significant price increase.
I hope that you will accept this as constructive criticism and will consider waiving these additional costs, as I understand it is within you power to do so.
Yours sincerely,
Dan Monceaux
