Dear Semsuri

Thank you for your request.

Our initial searches have determined that it may be too difficult to locate all the documents you have requested. However, we note that this is a continuation of a previous, invalid request for information about the dates on which diplomatic relations were established.

We have consulted our internal subject matter areas and have determined that it would be possible to create a list of dates of the first Australian diplomatic appointment to most of the countries you have listed.

As such, if you agree to withdraw your request, the department will generate this list and release it to you. If you do not agree, the department will continue to process your request in its current form, noting that this may result in a practical refusal under section 24 of the Freedom of Information Act 1982.

We would appreciate if you could confirm your agreement to withdraw by return email by COB Tuesday 4 January 2025.

Kind regards

DFAT FOI Team
