For the following reasons, the department does not hold documents relevant
to the above requests.

 

As a federal department, this department does not employ educators. The
state and territory education departments and non-government education
authorities are responsible for the delivery of school education,
including the employment of teachers and school staff. As such, you may
wish to contact the relevant education authorities in each state and
territory. We have attached a contact list for your convenience.

 

Similarly, the state and territory education authorities are best placed
to answer questions about guidelines and school policies on a range of
matters, including the matters you have raised.

 

The Australian Government has a national leadership role in matters such
as the establishment of an Australian Curriculum. However, it is state and
territory and non-government education authorities and schools that are
responsible for how the curriculum is implemented and taught in schools.
Below, we have provided examples of content in the Australian Curriculum
that is relevant to your requests.

 

As the department does not hold any documents within the scope of your two
requests, the department will deem your requests withdrawn unless you
advise that you do not withdraw your requests by close of business Tuesday
24 April 2018.

Years 5 and 6

Personal, Social and Community Health / Communicating and interacting for
health and wellbeing

Recognise how media and important people in the community influence
personal attitudes, beliefs, decisions and behaviours

Elaborations

·         examining how media and public identities influence the way
people act and the choices they make

·         sharing how important people in their life influence them to act
or behave in a healthy or safe way

·         analysing health messages in the media and comparing their
interpretations with those of other members of the class

·         exploring media representations of people who are Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander, from diverse cultural backgrounds, same-sex
attracted or gender diverse, and discussing how representations impact on
community values.

Years 9 and 10

Personal, Social and Community Health / Being healthy, safe and active

Evaluate factors that shape identities and critically analyse how
individuals impact the identities of others

·         analysing how societal norms, stereotypes and expectations
influence the way young people think about their bodies, abilities,
gender, sexuality, food, physical activity, sexual health, drugs and/or
risk-taking

·         examining how diversity and gender are represented in the media
and communities, and investigating the influence these representations
have on identities

·         analysing the role of family, friends and community in
supporting an individual’s identities, and proposing strategies to enhance
their own and others’ wellbeing

·         investigating how cultural beliefs and practices surrounding
transitions to adulthood differ between cultures.

 

Foundation to Year 10

HPE students have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge, and
understanding to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage
satisfying, respectful relationships. The HPE curriculum covers the area
of relationships and sexuality, including respectful online relationships
and online safety. It also supports students to develop positive practices
in relation to their reproductive and sexual health and the development of
