I know that the noise generated by aircraft operations can significantly vary based on the type of jet aircraft. For instance, the noise level of a B738 is noticeably higher than an A320 or a B717.

Given this, I am specifically interested in receiving a daily tally of different types of passenger jets landing at Hobart International Airport via Runway 30 RNP-AR from 1st July 2022 through 30th June 2023.

I would appreciate it if you could provide the data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet structured as follows:

'YYYY-MM-DD': This column should represent each day within the stated timeframe.
B738, B717, A320, A319, [plus any other prevalent passenger jet types]: These columns should indicate the daily count of each specific aircraft type that used Runway 30 RNP-AR.

I am writing in response to your previous communication in which you directed me to submit a Tailored Data Request for accessing information pertaining to the type of jet aircraft flying along a specific route.

I must express my dismay upon learning about the cost involved in obtaining this data. The fee of $960, in my opinion, is disproportionately high for accessing what seems to be a basic and integral part of the transparency that a public service organization like Airservices Australia should naturally offer.

The data I seek pertains directly to the flight path that was unilaterally decided to be directed over my residential area by Airservices Australia. It is reasonable, I believe, for any individual affected by such a decision to have access to the related data without incurring such substantial financial burden.

While I understand that there may be costs involved in preparing customized data, it seems essential to strike a balance between these costs and the duty of transparency, especially in instances like this where the requested information is of significant personal and public interest.

Hence, I kindly request that you reconsider your position and provide an alternative solution. It is important to understand the frequency and timings of the aircraft movements for the residents living under these flight paths. As such, I believe this information should be readily accessible without imposing prohibitive costs.

Dear MBX FOI,

I think this is unfair. Your organisation is operating in a high-handed manner. Not only does it believe it can act with impunity in deciding where it locates flight paths, it denies noise impacted residents the right to assess the impact. This is a moral failing on your part, and you know it.
