Battlefield V

. made this Freedom of Information request to Department of Communications and the Arts

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

This request has been withdrawn by the person who made it. There may be an explanation in the correspondence below.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, I request access to application and its supporting material/attachment (including video of the contentious material and/or gameplay) for the video game Battlefield V.

Personal information of junior ministerial staff and Departmental officers below the Senior Executive Service (SES) level, and mobile phone numbers and signatures of Departmental SES officers are not excluded from the scope of this FOI request.

Have regards to the guidelines [https://www.oaic.gov.au/freedom-of-infor... ] issued by the Australian Information Commissioner which says, "where public servants’ personal information is included in a document because of their usual duties or responsibilities, it would not be unreasonable to disclose unless special circumstances existed."

I think the names Missy Bedio, Felicia Curth, Matthew Manuel, Sonia Linares Martínez which appear in the credits [https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/b... ] may also appear in the application and its supporting material/attachment. On a social networking website for business people an unverified profile for Melissa Bedio [https://www.linkedin.com/in/melissa-bedi... ] says that he/she "prepare materials for age rating submissions … capture and edit video game footage for the submission videos, create product description documents, complete all submission paperwork (e.g., forms and questionnaires, story break-down, cut-scene transcriptions, etc) for ratings"

A common pattern for Electronic Arts email address is {first letter of first name}{last name}@ea.com . The email address for Missy Bedio is likely mbedio(at)ea.com .

I prefer language offensive because of religious matter or connection to also be edited out of the clean version posted on the department's website. Alberta Film Classification calls "language that negatively invokes an afterlife" cursing and "language that casually invokes Deity" profanity [https://web.archive.org/web/201703252013... ]. Euphemisms are fine and can be posted. A euphemistic example of cursing is "what the heck is going on?" A euphemistic example of profanity is "oh, my gosh."

If I need to pay extra for these language edits than ignore what I said about language and edit it normally.

How long is the video? Does it include video created by the Classification Board?

Why does it take 3 hours to search and retrieve the document?

Why does it take 7.5 hours to decide and prepare without video?

Hi - answers below:

How long is the video?

The video is approximately 1 hour long, assessing it for release would take longer than thatgiven it needs to be viewed by relevant staff, and even longer if redactions were needed.

Does it include video created by the Classification Board?

No. It is video submitted for the application.

Why does it take 3 hours to search and retrieve the document?

There is more than one document. This is how long it took. I understand the records were not all on site. The search also included assessing the documents and scheduling to the point that we are able to calculate the charge.

Why does it take 7.5 hours to decide and prepare without video?

The charge includes time for assessing the documents, consulting the third parties, decision making. Note there are a reasonably large amount of documents as they are attached to the application.

1. Does the search and retrieval time include staff time to walk from one area to another to find responsive records, or to drive to an off-site storage area to retrieve records?

2. At http://www.classification.gov.au/Industr... I can see what an applicant needs to provide (information going in) to get a computer game classified. Are there records created by the Classification Board (information going out), other than the notes and decision reports, that gives details about the content of the classified material? If so, what are they?

3. The department probably can see a version of the classification database that contains more information than the publically accessible one at www.classification.gov.au . Does the name of the classifier or location of the application appear when viewing information about classified material on the database accessible by the department?

Hi

1. No this was not specifically included in this case

For questions 2 and 3, these are general questions about the way the classification branch keeps records and are not about this request, which is for the application. Please refer them to the classification website - contact us page - http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/C...
