Dear Mr Brewster
Freedom of Information Request: FOI 3118
I refer to your request for access to documents under the Freedom of
Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act). Your request is in the following
terms:
1. A list of all entities that are approved to use of the word ANZAC
as is required under the Protection of Word 'Anzac' Regulations 1921
(Cth);
2. A list of all entities that have been denied approval of the use
of the word 'Anzac' under the provisions provided by the Protection of
Word 'Anzac' Regulations 1921 (Cth);
3. A list of all entities that are approved to import goods bearing
the word 'Anzac' under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations;
4. A list of entities that have been denied approval to import goods
bearing the word 'Anzac' under the Customs (Prohibited Imports)
Regulations.
We received your request on 16 April 2015 and the 30 day statutory period
for processing your request commenced from the day after that date. You
should therefore expect a decision by 18 May 2015. The period of 30 days
may be extended if we need to consult third parties, impose a charge or
for other reasons. We will advise you if this happens.
Your request in its current terms captures a significant amount of
information held by the Department. The Protection of the Word ‘Anzac’
Regulations commenced in 1921 and the Customs (Prohibited Imports)
Regulations commenced in 1956, and there have been numerous applications
for approval under these regulations. In the last twelve months alone, the
Department has received more than 400 applications for approval to use the
word Anzac. For this reason, it would assist us if you would consider
refining the scope of your request. Options for narrowing the scope of the
request may include limiting the request to a particular date range and/or
applicant.
If you decide to proceed with your request in its current terms, the
Department may decide to undertake a formal request consultation process,
which would attempt to narrow the scope of your request. The Department
may also decide to impose processing charges.
You can respond to our proposal by replying to this email, or
alternatively using one of the contact methods below.
We will continue to contact you using the email address you have provided.
Please advise if you would prefer us to use an alternative means of
contact.

Yours sincerely,
Anthony Brewster

made under s15AB(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) (the
