All police media releases between 2010 And 2016
Dear NSW Police Force,
I would like a copy of all police media releases between 2010 and 2016. If this is not possible can I get a copy of all archived police media releases for 2015 and 2016?
These are not made available on your website for more than a few months, why is that?
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Gladstone
Please find attached a formal application and credit card form ($30 fee)
for completion and return, along with a certified copy of proof of
identity.
thank you,
Monika

Dear NSW Police Force,
I am wondering why I have to pay $30 to get information that is on the public record, your agency has in some form or other and should be archived or saved somewhere.
Can you please explain why your first response is to ask for money and if you do in fact have the information I am requesting?
Also what form will the response come in?
Please do not send PDFs.
I am hoping for a user-friendly format like CSV, Excel or even word documents.
Yours faithfully,
Nigel Gladstone
Hi Nigel,
Could you please resend the original request so that we can look at the
matter.
thank you,
Monika

Hi Nigel,
In order for you to receive the $15 discount, you need to supply proof of
financial hardship - as stated on the application form. If this is not
provided, then the fee is $30. Please copy and email a copy of the
relevant card that entitles you to the discount.
thank you,
Monika

Dear Monika,
The form also states a discount is available for "special benefit to the public" which, I believe is what journalism and release of this information would be classified as.
I am researching the use of police media which, I think is clearly in the public interest.
Do you disagree with this and if so why?
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Gladstone
Hi Nigel,
Under the GIPA Act, the fee is $30. Currently NSW Police allow a discount
of $15 for people who have financial hardship and this must be proven - as
stated on the application form. Journalism and the information you
require does not meet the criteria.
We are unable to process your application unless a $30 fee is supplied.
Your application will be made invalid unless the $30 is supplied.
thank you,
Monika
Dear Monika,
Ok then, I authorise you to charge me $30 to release the police media releases the NSW Police have previously released for free.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need for this application to proceed.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Gladstone

What happened with this Nigel? It's marked successful but did you receive the documents?

Hey Nigel,
I've had a web scraper collecting all the media releases published on their website for about 18 months:
https://morph.io/equivalentideas/nsw_pol...
You can download all that data on morph.io :)
Let me know if you find it useful.
