PM Correspondence - Gambling advertising reforms
I'm disgusted at your government's decision not to implement the recommendations of
the parliamentary committee to ban all forms of gambling advertising.
There is widespread public support for this ban. Such a reform is bread and butter for
Labor but you've fumbled it entirely. You know you're on the wrong side of history
when even John Howard is calling for a more progressive reform than you.
I'm a reformed gambler - it is destroying the lives of Australians. Stopping
Communications
advertisements is a meaningful step to stopping the harm caused by gambling
addiction.

It's a fallacy to say that grassroots and professional sport will suffer from loss of
revenues when similar bans have been implemented in other jurisdictions or in
Australia on other products, like tobacco.
Minister
Please do the right thing on this issue and show that you still represent some
traditional Labor values. Gough would be horrified if he saw your dithering on this
the
issue.

Lastly, do you think it's appropriate that Michelle Rowland continues to receive gifts
(eg lunches, tickets to events) from gambling companies? This does not accord with
the transparency you promised your government would show.
