Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology (AT) is any device or system that allows individuals to perform tasks
they would otherwise be unable to do or increases the ease and safety with which tasks
can be performed (World Health Organization).
Examples include wheelchairs, communication devices and modified cutlery.
This page provides information on how to complete a request for TAB advice related to
assistive technology.

How can the TAB assist?
TAB has Advisors who provide technical advice to NDIA staff in the area of AT.
Before requesting advice from TAB:
•
Check all available resources and speak to your Team Leader, Senior LAC or
Senior EC Coordinator to form an opinion.
•
Check the TAB Digest for examples of Technical Advice to assist decision making.
•
Review the TAB AT Checklist to ensure you have all the necessary information
available for TAB to provide advice and to assist a timely outcome for
participants.
Mandatory Advice from TAB
For some AT supports it is mandatory to obtain TAB advice before a delegate decision is
made. AT supports that require mandatory TAB advice are listed in the table below.
Non Mandatory Advice from TAB
Requests for AT supports that are not mandatory advice requests must be submitted by
a Team Leader, Senior Planner, Senior LAC or Senior EC Coordinator ONLY.
