Subject: Freedom of Information request - Letter from Senator Dean Smith and response
From: Ben Fairless <xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxx.xxx.xx>
To: FOI requests at Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection <
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxx.xxx.xx>
Dear Minister for Immigration,
I refer to allegations in parliament about letters from Senator Smith to the minister advocating for an individual on Christmas Island who is a child sex offender.
I would ask if it’s possible for a copy of these letters (and any responses) to be made available administratively. I have no objection to the withholding of information which would identify the individual.
If it’s not possible to do this administratively, can this be processed as a formal FOI request?
Yours faithfully,
Ben Fairless
