Roads ACT was a business within Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) with responsibility for the management, use and maintenance of the ACT roads, bridges, footpaths, traffic lights, street lighting and the stormwater infrastructure asset base. Roads develop a sizeable capital works program each year and are responsible for the management of Canberra's traffic. Roads also provide line-marking, project management, sign design and manufacture and respond to emergency works that is underpinned by a 24 hour service.
